Evotech proud to appoint first female engineering apprentice

Evotech is delighted to welcome Annabelle Eastman to its engineering team. Annabelle is the first female electrical engineering apprentice to be appointed by Evotech, having fought off strong competition to earn her place on the team. 

Evotech wants its workforce to be a true reflection of society and encourages more women and people from other underrepresented groups to apply for roles across the business. 

The number of engineering roles in the UK is expected to increase 5.3% by 2024 so the need for young people to choose engineering as their career is great, especially as 21% of the current workforce is over the age of 55. It's very important that seasoned engineers are able to pass on their skills, wisdom and hard earnt experience, to the next generation of engineers before they retire. If not, they could leave a skills gap difficult to plug.

Annabelle is just one of a number of apprentices employed across the business in both engineering and office roles, nationwide. Evotech has a good reputation for offering permanent, full time employment, post qualification and believes apprentices are a great asset to take the business forward into the future. 

Annabelle wanted to pursue a career in electrical engineering, whilst gaining real life experience working on the job and she's looking forward to working with her mentors and learning more about the site and what the job entails. 

Whilst based at Evotech’s client’s site, Fountains Precinct, she will also work with mobile teams on both M&E and Fire & Security contracts in the Sheffield area. She will be mentored by northern regional director, Steve Traynor, onsite electrical engineer Stephen Fowler and Sheffield mobile engineer Andy Till.
