More than 200 samples of Arctic snow & ice to
benefit research into climate change
Since returning from their Arctic expedition, explorer Felicity Aston MBE and her all-female
team have been busy logging samples and data for scientific research.
On April 7, 2024, the B.I.G. Expedition team travelled to Nunavut to traverse the Prince Gustav
Adolf Sea by ski, collecting snow, ice, and water samples. This area of sea is one of two within
the Arctic Ocean where the oldest and thickest rafts of ice from across the Arctic eventually
drift. This marks the final ski journey of a four-year project, during which Felicity's team has
completed four expeditions and collected more than 200 samples. As a proud sponsor of the
expedition Evotech awaits the outcome of the scientific research they have enabled.

Unlocking the value of green building
certifications
In today's competitive property market, selecting the right green building certification for
your property portfolio is crucial. The challenge lies in determining which certification best
aligns with your building's unique characteristics and your journey towards net zero
emissions.
By 2040, around two thirds of the global building stock will consist of buildings that exist today,

30% of energy consumed in commercial buildings today is wasted. To help navigate this
landscape effectively, our blog on Green Building Certifications offers a comprehensive
comparison of available certifications. Whether you are just beginning your sustainability
journey or are well on your way to achieving net zero, selecting the right certification can
significantly enhance the value and sustainability of your property portfolio.

Fire safety regulations
implemented in England
post Grenfell Tower fire
Since the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, the UK government has
introduced stringent fire safety regulations targeting high-rise
residential buildings to help prevent similar tragedies.
The new rules took effect between October 2023 and April 2024 and impose rigorous standards
on buildings over 18 metres or seven storeys high. Developers must now incorporate
comprehensive fire safety measures, such as installing fire alarms in individual flats, using fire-resistant materials, fitting fire doors with specific resistance ratings, and implementing
compartmentation strategies to contain fires. And, from 2026, new high-rise blocks of flats
must include a second staircase. In addition, the government updated its guidance supporting
the building regulations in 2020 to advise that new blocks of flats that are at least 11 metres
should have sprinklers fitted.
