Bradford air pollution linked to nearly half of A&E respiratory attendances
New research funded by the National Institute for Health Research has revealed that almost half of all visits to A&E for breathing difficulties in Bradford are linked to breaches in daily air pollution limits.
In one of the biggest studies of its kind globally, the data-driven study, analysed more than 120,000 patients over four years. Researchers discovered a worrying trend when the daily levels of nitrogen dioxide, which forms part of the discharge from car exhausts, soared above recommended levels set by the World Health Organisation. Air quality tracking revealed that pollution levels were exceeded on an average of 157 days per year, equating to 43 percent of the time.
The team found that up to 35 percent of patients with respiratory problems seeing their GP, and 49 percent of those attending A&E, was linked to days with excessive air pollution. The combined cost of these pollution related healthcare visits during the Bradford study is estimated to be £2m, a financial burden higher than previously thought.

DLUHC says Golden Thread of Information can be stored on multiple systems
The ‘golden thread’ digital record of a building’s information required to be kept under the Building Safety Act (BSA) can be stored on multiple systems, the government has decided.
Under the Government’s building safety reforms, duty holders, defined as clients, principle contractors and principle designers, will be required to maintain a Golden Thread of Information about a building throughout its lifecycle. This digital record is a single source of truth about a building, such as how it is constructed, how it is maintained and how safety has been designed into it.
Upon further consideration the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has decided that to deliver a single source of truth it is not necessary for all the Golden Thread Information to be stored on a single system. The decision was made after receiving feedback from stakeholders about their use of multiple systems and how this can deliver effective outcomes.

Government publishes fire door guide for Accountable Persons
The Secretary of State has published a guide, under Article 50 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO), to assist Accountable Persons in meeting their duties.
The guide is intended to assist those with duties under the Fire Safety (England) Regulations to comply with regulation 10, which makes requirements about fire doors in all buildings that contain two or more domestic premises and that contain common parts, through which residents would need to evacuate in a fire.
It aims to help Accountable Persons to carry out simple checks on a fire door based on the assumption that the fire risk assessment has already assessed their suitability.
