Report cites Net Zero as 21st century growth opportunity
Former Energy Minister Chris Skidmore has published his
report on delivering net zero after being commissioned by Government to
undertake an independent review of its approach. Confirming that ‘net zero’ is
the growth opportunity of the 21st century, Mission Zero sets out 129
recommendations on how Government and businesses can meet net zero by 2050.
Specific recommendations for the construction sector include
the Government fully implementing the Construction Playbook, developing a
public procurement plant for low‐carbon construction and materials by the end
of 2023, and setting up Net Zero Retrofit Hubs.
Official statistics show there are already around 400,000 jobs in low carbon businesses and their supply chains across the UK, with turnover estimated at £41.2 billion in 2020.
